What is WAFID?

Is Wafid required for Filipinos going to Saudi Arabia?
The Philippines is officially included in the Wafid program, and Wafid is intended for people seeking work or residence in participating GCC destinations. Saudi Arabia is among the GCC countries covered by the system. (Wafid)
However, your exact deployment requirements can depend on your visa category, occupation and the instructions of the relevant Saudi/GCC authority or Philippine deployment process.
So don't assume that every type of visitor to Saudi Arabia follows exactly the same medical procedure.
For an employment visa, follow the medical instructions connected to your actual visa and deployment application.
Where Can Filipinos Take a WAFID Medical?
In August 2026, the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers reported that there were 24 Wafid-accredited medical centers and clinics in the Philippines, and that the GCC planned to expand the network.
However, accreditation lists can change.
The official Wafid website maintains a live medical-center directory for the Philippines, including facilities in locations such as Manila, Cebu and Davao.
Before paying or travelling to a clinic, verify it directly in the Wafid directory.
How to book a Wafid medical appointment
The process starts through the official Wafid booking system.
You select the country where you will undergo the examination, your city and the GCC country you are travelling to. Be especially careful with your passport number, spelling of your name and date of birth. These details can later become part of your medical record and visa processing.
Standard vs Premium Wafid appointment
This is one of the most important updates.
As of the current Wafid booking page, there are two booking options:

So for 2026, the more accurate explanation is:
For a normal Standard appointment, expect allocation according to the Wafid booking system and availability. For Premium, Wafid currently advertises clinic/date selection.
Is the $10 Wafid fee already the complete medical fee?
Do not assume that.
The Gulf Health Council regulations identify US$10 as an e-system registration fee, while the Wafid booking page currently shows the Standard and Premium appointment charges. (Wafid)
That does not establish that US$10 is the entire amount you will spend for all medical services in the Philippines.
If there are local examination charges, laboratory fees or other authorized charges, confirm them with the accredited clinic or your legitimate deployment channel.
This distinction is important because posts online sometimes advertise the Wafid booking fee as though it were automatically the total medical cost.
Who Should Pay Attention to the September 17 Saudi Update?
The Saudi memorandum wording specifically refers to:
Applicants recruited for employment in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Therefore, This should not automatically say that the September 17 implementation applies identically to tourists, family visitors, dependents, or every Saudi visa category.

What should an OFW do now?
If You're Currently Processing for Saudi Arabia
Before undergoing your medical:
- Ask your DMW-licensed recruitment agency whether your case must now be processed through Wafid.
- Go only to the official Wafid website for registration and appointment procedures.
- Verify your medical center through the official Wafid directory.
- Make sure your name, passport number, birth date and passport details match your passport exactly.
- Keep your Wafid slip/reference.
- Complete the medical examination before the remaining Saudi visa-processing steps where the new workflow applies.
- Check your medical status through Wafid instead of relying only on screenshots or messages from third parties.
Wafid's official FAQ confirms that the Philippines is one of the countries under the program and provides online appointment, slip and medical-status functions.
What happens during a Wafid medical examination?
The published GCC regulations divide the examination into several major components: medical history, clinical examination, laboratory testing, and psychological/mental-status assessment.
The medical form and technical requirements also include a chest X-ray and tests involving blood and urine.
Published GCC examination requirements include testing or evaluation involving blood pressure, vision, cardiovascular and respiratory health, CBC/hemoglobin, blood sugar, kidney and liver function, HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis testing, malaria/filaria where applicable, urinalysis, stool testing where applicable and chest radiography.

The accredited medical center is responsible for conducting and recording the examination according to applicable Wafid/GCC requirements.
What can cause an UNFIT Wafid result?
Under the published Gulf Health Council criteria, medical-unfitness cases include several infectious and non-communicable conditions.
Among the listed infectious conditions are positive HIV testing, hepatitis B surface antigen, hepatitis C antibodies, malaria/microfilaria, leprosy and specified abnormal chest-X-ray findings including active or previous pulmonary tuberculosis-related findings.
The published non-communicable criteria include renal failure, liver failure, heart failure, uncontrolled hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, cancers, certain psychological or neurological disorders, physical conditions that prevent performance of the job, and very low hemoglobin.
The regulations also list pregnancy as an unfitness condition when the applicant is applying for a work visa. There are separate radiological provisions in the regulations for pregnant women joining family members, so employment and family-residence cases should not automatically be treated as identical.
Medical situations can be individual and complex, so an applicant with a particular condition should discuss their actual results with the accredited medical center rather than relying on social-media interpretations.

How long does the Wafid medical result take?
The published regulations require an accredited center to issue the medical-fitness certificate within a maximum of three days from the date of the examination.
You can check your status online using either your passport information or Wafid/GCC slip number.

How long is a Wafid medical certificate valid?
According to Article 42 of the published GCC regulations, a medical certificate issued by an accredited center has a validity period of two months from its issue date for the purpose of issuing or approving the visa.
Be careful because there are two different things involved:
Appointment slip validity is the period printed on your Wafid appointment slip.
Medical certificate validity is the period applicable to the medical fitness report after it has been issued.

So don't use the expiration date of the booking slip as though it were automatically the expiration date of the final medical certificate.
What if there is a mistake in your Wafid information?
Huwag gumawa agad ng panibagong booking dahil lang mali ang isang detail.
The Wafid FAQ says applicants who entered incorrect information—such as passport number, name, nationality, profession, date of birth, visa information or passport information—should contact the medical center and ask it to submit a change request.
Wafid also states that this correction request is free of charge and the applicant should not pay a fee simply for the correction request. (Wafid)
That is an important protection against people asking for unofficial “correction fees.”
Can you be medically checked again after arriving in Saudi Arabia?
Yes, the Wafid medical done before departure should not be interpreted as an absolute guarantee that no further examination can happen.
The GCC regulations provide for medical examination by the health authority of the GCC destination after arrival and establish procedures when an expatriate is subsequently found medically unfit.
So a FIT Wafid result is part of the visa/deployment process, but destination-country health requirements still apply.
Latest Philippines update: more Wafid clinics may be coming
There is also a significant 2026 development for Filipino applicants.
In August 2026, representatives of the GCC Secretariat and Gulf Health Council met with the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers and discussed expanding the number of Wafid-accredited medical centers in the Philippines.

Passing the medical examination does not by itself mean your Saudi employment contract, visa, DMW processing, employer documentation or future Qiwa contract is already complete.
